I have the latest version of mach3 and msm(trial). when I run some g-code to cut an elipse the tool path is not traced out as the tool is moving. if I click on the tool icon in the display the tool location is updated with crosshairs but there is no animation. Thanks Jack

Hi Jack, The tool path is all handled by mach (not MSM) so the issue it probably a mach setting - let's try the obvious ones first: 1) when you first load the gcode (before you start it running), does mach draw a tool path? 2 if not, is the "T Path" button on? 3) when you click the "regen" button does mach draw the path?

1. It does draw the path 2. T path button is on 3. regen will draw the path. The software is not connected to a machine and the mach3 is just out of the box. This is not on the machine in the shop which is currently running OK. Thanks Jack

Hum, this is a new one to me, so I'm going to speculate a bit: 1) is the parallel port driver (or some other motion driver like a SS Driver) installed on the machine? Or is this a true Simulation install (where mach has no motion driver of any type installed)?
If this is a true sim install, then I'd expect to see the tool path - as that's kind of the point of a sim installation.
2) But if the PP driver is installed, and this is a default mach install, then there are probably not any output pins defined in mach's ports& Pins dialog. Perhaps ( this is just a guess) the PP driver requires some outputs to be configured before mach will draw a tool path while running the gcode (while is would be a tad counter intuitive, I can think of a couple of reasons this could be the case).
An experiment would to be to define outputs for XY&Z and see if that gets the tool path working again.
note that it does not matter if a PP is physically present or if it is hooked up to anything... the PP software will just write to the port address range set up in the PP driver - so I often just use 378 as the port address even if no PP is there.

That did it. No outputs for the x or z. That was worth 50 bucks. Buying my copy of pro right now.
Thanks Dave.
