Are they compatible with each other? Anything to watch for? About to try one out in combination with a G540. Just trying to avoid any unnecessary issues.

Hi, There are multiple MSM users that run a SS and I have a PMDX 125 and SS combo that I use for a test rig.
Fyi - MSM uses Mach for hardware access in order to be as independent of controller hardware as possible.
So, as far as I know, no problems with MSM and and a smooth stepper - (given current firmware for the SS - there were a couple of small problems with how the SS handled probe events about a year or a bit more ago - but since those were ironed out by Greg things have been fine).

Dave, thanks so much for the timely reply. You should know me well enough by now to be aware of my ability to misunderstand how things work. I have heard good things about the SS for years and figured I would try it to dispel the myths of its set up for the cnc dummy. If I can get it running well, it just means you have to read well into the night, many nights in a row. More fun! Thanks Again. I am sure I will be back with many questions once it is received.

Dave,
Is MSM compatible with Dynomations KFlop/Kanalog boards?
Thank you!

Keith,
From what I know of the kflop, I'd say:
1) If you mean a scenario where you are using mach to connect to the Kflop, then I'd say yes. MSM doesn't know about what's below mach for hardware... BUT... this assumes the kflop fully implements the probing sematics for Mach. I add the last phrase as I understand the kflop to need user C programming for a lot of stuff. That makes the kflop in control of what mach sees for probing event sequences. If the Kflop code is not right, then mach (and hence MSM) is in trouble.
2) If you mean the kflop running kmotion software etc directly - then that will not play with MSM as MSM interfaces to mach, and in this scenario, mach is not present.

Dave,
Thank you for the prompt reply.
Your description of setup (1) describes my approach..... MSM and Mach3 software interfacing with a KFlop board.
If probing issues arise I will work with Tom at Dynomation and keep you in the loop.
Many thanks for for all the time you have put in to give use a G-R-E-A-T screen set!
I'll be upgrading to MSM Pro when my personal edition update runs out in March.

Keith, If you're worried about losing time for the "update period" and that is stopping you from upgrading from personal to pro, you can do the upgrade whenever you like; The upgrade will add to the current date rather than start the clock over (or at least it should, and did the last time I tested it - if it doesn't I'll fix it).
