Can you please tell us what brand probe you are using in the two intro videos? It looks like one from wildhorse but the wildhorse one is only 2 d unless you take it apart. Any other advice on an under $200 .001 accuracy probe would be appreciated!
BTW - is wildhorse still in business?

hi, The probe i used for the videos is from wildhorse.
It does have a modification: the center spindle was changed to use standard probe tips and shafts. That's why there is a red ball end on the shaft in the videos (I used it as it shows up a little better in the videos than the wildhorse tapered shaft with steel tip).
I'm not sure what you mean when you say that the "...the wildhorse one is only 2 d unless you take it apart..." As far as I know the wildhorse probes are all the same design which are 3d probes.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Did you make the mod to the probe? What was involved? I have looked at places like Enco for probes, and can't find any (probably because I am searching for the wrong term). Where might I buy a "standard probe tip"?
Sorry to be so dense. This is all new to me, but when I saw the demo videos of your front end to Mach 3 I knew I had to go that way. I am so tired of edge finding!

Hi, I've purchased probe tips from www.itpstyli.com/They have a wide selection and reasonable prices. The center piece of the probe is threaded for the probe tip that Wildhorse supplies. I have one which uses a different thread - then I just screw the shafts in to use them. You could make a little thread adapter to convert form the stock wildhorse thread (I forget what that is) to the thread for the tips you like. FYI - the steel wildhorse probe tip is fine for most setup operations Re probe options- there are not a lot of choices at the low price end of the scale - See this thread for info contributed by MSM users: calypsoventures.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=msmsupport&action=display&thread=61re probing vs edge finding - I hear you ;D I know my edge finders are still in the tool chest but I haven't used them (except to test MSM touch off operations) in a long time...
