I was trying to get MSM ATLO set up on my machine last night. When I went to set the Z height of the TLO touch plate I got this message "Touch plate not found". The touch plate is attached to the "Probe" input, I can see that it is high on the hardware screen. I can also see it go low when I short it to the machine base. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris

Is "TCP TP Installed" turned on (setting common page) so that MSMw knows the plate is present?
It sounds as if this message while trying to do the "Set TCP TP MCz" operation - correct? Did the spindle start moving toard the plate but never touched it? If so, check the setting for Max Distance for the late (setting common page) - is it too small to allow enough travel to reach the plate?

Dave,
I believe I have TCP TP Installed turned on.
Yes it was the "Set TCP TP MCz" operation.
There was a small movement, and then the "Touch Plate not found" message.
I have the Max Distance at 13". The actual travel needed was about 6". The machine only moved .050" or so.
I had another error earlier stating (off the top of my head) TCP TP max distance <= Probe Max Z. I changed the Probe Max Z Distance to 13.0 and then I got the Touch Plate not found errors.
Thanks,
Chris

Rather than try to remember what is going on I made a set of screenshots. Let me know if you need any more. Attachments:

FYI for thread readers - more conversation moved to a direct email exchange. I'll post results when we get there.
Dave
P.S. progress will not be for several days as I've been put on a trial jury so I'll be offline for several days until that ends.

Dave has been really helpful with this problem, along with a couple others that I ran into. Last night he sent me some G code to run that tested the probe functions without using the MSM interface. Low and behold it worked as it should.
So I began to wonder why MSM would have problems. Then I remembered that I had originally installed the personal version. I decided not to use it because I didn't have home switches set up yet, so I couldn't use the TLO functions. A month went by and I finally got the home switches installed. Then I realized that I needed the professional version to get the ATLO functions. I installed the Pro version without uninstalling the personal version. There must have been some leftover file that told MSM that touch plates were not available.
I uninstalled MSM this morning and reinstalled the Pro version. I was able to run the TLO TP MCz setup and measure a couple tools without a hitch.
Thanks again for all of your patience Dave.

Hi Chris, It's good to know that it's working for you now. I think you'll like the ATLO feature - it makes tool handling much easier. Dave

Another update for the forum readers. Over the weekend I attempted to get MSM ATLO working again. I started getting the touch plate not found errors. I tried the MDI commands and those failed too. I went to the hardware page and could see an occasional glitch on the "Probe" signal. So I replaced the touch plate wiring with a new shielded line from the BOB. While I was at it I tied the shield to the chassis ground.
I fired MSM back up and was able to get the ATLO function working. I went through a couple tool changes last night and it works as advertised.
