For multiple reasons, the decision has been made to migrate CVI support traffic from this site to a CVI hosted support forum.
The primary motivation is to gain forum features that have not been (and will not be) available from the current forum hosting service.
While you may not be aware of it, the current forum is running on proboards v4 software. Proboards has announced that they will be forcing all forums to upgrade to V5 software over the next couple of months. I’ve tried out a V5 test version of the CVI forum and learned that it will not provide the features CVI needs. When I learned that the V5 “upgrade” will require that all current users create new proboard accounts, I began seriously to look at alternative solutions. :-(
With proboards already committed to forcing a (IMHO undesired) disruption upon CVI users, I figured we should treat that as an opportunity to move to a better forum environment.
The transition will be done in three phases:
Phase 1: Open new forum.
The new forum is enabled and I’m asking users to create user accounts at the new forum. Please go visit the new forum and create your user account there:
www.calypsoventures.com/forums
Hopefully this will be about a week in duration (we’ll see how it goes). The intent is to let people find the new forum, play with it, shake it out, make sure it has no major hidden bugs and generally confirm that it is ready to be used as the main CVI support forum.
Phase 2: Migrate to new forum.
During this phase I’ll encourage folks to use the new forum rather than the old one.
This period will be variable in length. During this phase I’ll answer support posts on both forums. This phase will end once it appears that most of the traffic has migrated to the new forum.
Phase 3: Mothball the old forum.
This phase started with the posting of this notice.
I’ll stop answering posts made to the proboards hosted forum. Only new posts made to the new CVI hosted forum will get a support response.
The old forum will stay around, it just won’t be active and won’t get new content.
I can’t copy the old forum contents to the new forum due to the proboards terms of service (they claim ownership of the board contents and prohibit crawling the boards to move the content). CVI has no desire to abuse the proboard’s terms of service; so the old board will remain as a reference location for prior conversations in case we need to refer to them at some time in the future.
