Hi, I'm working on the next release for MSM and I'm considering doing some house cleaning along the way - If you use the MSM Tool Change option " TLO=WCZ0" please let me know. I don't personally see justification for this feature given that Master Tool Mode does everything it does, and in a manner which is much easier to understand. So... I am very seriously considering removing this from MSM. If you like and use this feature, please speak up now - Dave

Do you mean removing the ability to set tools and the Work Coordinate Z0 home position without a probe and wired touchplate?

Actually, I mean the opposite - When using MSM, there is a tool change option that is only available when the "TC Auto TLO" is turned on. It is the "TLO=WCZ0" option button. What this dies is measure a tool via the TCP touch plate and calculates the TLO value to use relative to a previously stored Z level (which is presumed to have been set to the part WC Z0 level).
I find this option to be little understood and much harder to use than the master Tool methods. So I suspect that everyone that does TLO measurements as part of a tool change, are using master tool approach instead.
I dislike options that are not used, they just take up screen space, user manual space and sometimes generate support questions, so I'm considering doing away with this particular Tool change option.
However, this would not prevent one from setting TLOs relative to a part's Z0 level - there are lots of ways to do that. It would just remove one of the three Tool Change options for automatic TLO measurements.

Good thinking.
My first CNC mill had one method. All the tool holders were RH. Use a fixed tool, like the edge finder to set the work Z Zero plane; Touch off all tools to the work plane (Z0), and the Z-offset of each tool was entered into the tool offset table, whatever it may be, positive or negative.
Worked perfectly for 20 years.

OK, as they say: "speak now or forever hold your peace".... I'm about to decide about this feature going/staying.... last chance to try to influence the outcome... ) An now on to today's interesting tidbit lesson - I had to stop a second to wonder if I should have written that as "piece" or "peace" - from www.learnersdictionary.com/blog.php?action=ViewBlogArticle&ba_id=115Dave

An update:
The jury has returned from deliberation and the verdict is to remove TLO=WCZO.
The feature was removed with the MSM 1.3.12 beta release.
